Transport Clerk

Transport Clerk required for a position with our well-established client in Aldridge, West Midlands.


This company are well known nationally, they have operated at the Midlands depot supplying furniture to the local area for 20 years. The position is Temp - Perm.


Role Purpose:

To efficiently co-ordinate the operational activity within the Transport function , brief and de-brief drivers & mates and ensure all Operational procedures are adhered to at all times  


Core Responsibilities:

·         Fully brief drivers/mates before and after the day’s work

·         Drivers board to be accurately maintained on a daily basis

·         Issue drivers packs , these to include, keys, EPOD, fuel card, paperwork and PPE

·         Driver digi-cards to be uploaded daily  

·         All drivers tachograh infringements to be explained and signed off

·         Reduce sickness through return to work procedure

·         Book and control agency staff in line with sales volumes & cost budgets

·         Ensure all defect reports are actioned and filed on completion

·         Co-ordination of breakdowns & recovery

·         Ensure all staff are in clean uniform with relevant PPE

·         Investigate all vehicle and property damage and take any action necessary

·         Investigate all customer complaints & escalations in a timely manner and action as necessary

·         Complete all transport admin related duties – ie file maintenance, Lightfoot, Trutac , Calidus etc

·         Ensure all vehicles are in a clean & tidy condition through daily checks and regular audits

·         Ensure all agency 3rd party workers are fully inducted with sign offs and legally available to work

·         Transport office to be kept clean and tidy at all times

·         Promote a positive image to all drivers/mates

·         Any other duties deemed reasonable within the Transport function to ensure the smooth running of the depot


Key Characteristics:

·          Good level of numeracy & IT skills ( excel, word etc )

·          Attention to detail

·          Good inter-personal communication skills

·          Ability to remain calm under pressure

·          Team player with a “ can do “ & flexible attitude


Skills and Experience:

·         CPC preferred but not essential

·         Previous experience of working in a fast paced retail furniture environment ( 2 Man Home Delivery an advantage but not essential ) or logistics/distribution

·         Organised & methodical in approach to problem solving

·         Previous experience of dealing with driver management systems an advantage
