WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

Is a key member of the engineering team and has responsibility to ensure the sewing machines are kept in a good and safe operating condition at all times. 

Will carry out maintenance on the sewing machines; ensuring work is carried out safely; keeping machines well maintained in a safe working condition.

Will ensure the cutting room equipment is kept up to date with its service regime and being the first responder to any technical issues; 

Will ensure contractors are correctly managed when on site; update the spare part inventory where necessary ensuring enough spares are kept in stock; keep accurate records; provide detailed reports (including but not limited to) of any maintenance, breakdowns and incidents; Provide ideas and solutions to improve current machinery and process’; Support in specifying new sewing and cutting room machinery; Support other areas of manufacturing when requested by their line manager; Carry out risk assessments and develop SSOW.  

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure sewing machinery and cutting room equipment is kept in a safe working condition.

  • Keep machine and equipment downtime to a minimum.

  • Carry out proactive planned maintenance tasks without supervision

  • Carry out reactive maintenance tasks without supervision.

  • Diagnose faults effectively and make good whenever possible.

  • Carry out mechanical repair and/or replacement of equipment

  • Ensure all tasks are risk assessed through site specific or dynamic assessments.

  • Sourcing parts and materials from suppliers and arranging procurement through technical administration.

  • Administering work permits and monitoring 3rd party contractors.

  • Keeping accurate records

  • Updating and maintaining the CMMS system

  • Keep a clean and tidy work area at all times

Knowledge, skills and Experience required for site maintenance engineer

  • Experience in sewing machine maintenance (preferred)

  • Minimum NVQ Level 2 in Mechanical 

  • Good literacy and numeracy skills, able to keep a track of and report on activity

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills

  • Team player

  • Adaptable and flexible

  • Tidy worker with good organisational skills.

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with colleagues
